The Rail Lab is an independent model railway publication run by James Hartley — a lifelong modeller who's been building layouts since long before the internet made it easier to make mistakes faster.

This site exists for the serious hobbyist. Not the casual browser, not the collector who keeps things in boxes. The builder. The one with track plans sketched on the back of envelopes, a shelf full of half-finished locos, and a very patient family.
